Juicy and Delicious: Easy Peach Dessert Recipe

When and where I grew up, everything in the produce section was seasonal. May through June brought plums, apricots, and strawberries. July was all about watermelons, melons, cherries, and peaches. The city of Bursa in Turkey (Türkiye) is renowned for its peaches, which were large, about 3.5-4 inches in radius—a size comparable to a big fist. They were juicy, full of flavor, and especially the ripe ones smelled divine!

Speaking of ripe, everything in the produce section was always ripe. However, due to globalization, you can now find almost any fruit at any time. To ensure the products are delivered intact, they must be harvested before they ripen. Unfortunately, not everything ripens after harvest; those tasteless items just go bad over time. Peaches are one such product.

Back to peaches: Whenever I walk through the produce section, I always check the peaches. If I like the shape and size, I buy three, just enough for my family of three to make the following dessert.

Ingredients:

  • Three peaches
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup water
  • Optional: 1-2 cloves to enhance the flavor

Instructions:

  1. In a pressure cooker (you can also use a stove top with the lid closed, and if so, increase the water to a full cup), pour the water and add sugar and cloves. Place the thoroughly washed peaches in the cooker.
  2. Close the lid and cook for 3 minutes after it whistles. Allow it to cool down before opening the lid. For safety, I always place it under running tap water for a minute before opening it.
  3. With a spoon, remove the peaches and return the pressure cooker to the stove. Let the syrup reduce on low heat without closing the lid, for about 5-10 minutes. Look for small bubbles; when they start to appear slowly, the consistency has increased. At this point, you can do one of two things:

Option 1:

  • Pour the syrup over your peaches. Once they cool down, keep them in the fridge until serving.

Option 2:

  • In a separate cup, preferably a shaker, add the following ingredients:
    • 1 cup ice
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
    • 1/2 ounce triple sec
    • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • Shake well, then strain and mix with your syrup. Pour this mix over your peaches. Once they cool down, keep them in the fridge until serving.

Bon appetit! | Afiyet olsun.
